March is here so it’s time to go green and celebrate everything Irish! For St. Patrick’s Day, people usually go out to local pubs and parades but that won’t be the case this year. That’s why it’s a great opportunity to spend quality time and have fun with the whole family. We’ve got some great tips on ways that you can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at home this year.

Drink Your Greens
Without a doubt, one of the biggest parts of St. Patrick’s Day is the drinks. Green beer is a staple of any pub visit, but there are some great alternatives that the whole family can drink. Create some green cocktails or mocktails using fun flavours or blend up some yummy green smoothies. And don’t forget about a shamrock shake! Here are just a few of our favourite drink recipes:

Dress to Impress in Green
One of the most well-known traditions on St. Patrick’s Day is wearing green! You can wear a green shirt or a sweater but why not have a little fun with your outfit? Add some four-leaf clover pins or a leprechaun hat. Plan your looks out with the whole family so you can sport your best green on the big day and avoid any pinching.

Snack Like A Leprechaun
Getting creative in the kitchen is a great way to spend time together as a family and St. Patrick’s Day is no exception. Make some delicious green treats that you can enjoy throughout the week or even drop off to your friends and neighbours. These are some fun and easy ones that anyone can make.

St. Patrick’s Day Crafts
Get crafty this St. Patrick’s Day! There’s no limit to what you can create with the family when it comes to crafts. You can even use some of your creations as decorations for your house or as little gifts for friends or neighbours. Here are a few to try:

Decorate the House
Between the gold, the rainbows and of course all the green, St. Patrick’s Day is a colourful holiday. That means lots of opportunities to do some creative decorating around your house! If you’re a DIYer, make some decorations with your family. You can also take a trip to the local dollar store and let everyone pick out some decorations.

Go Irish For Dinner
One of the best ways to celebrate any occasion is through food. Plan out a big Irish meal to share with your family on March 17. Here are a few recipes to try:

  • Classic Irish Soda Bread
This soda bread is an Irish classic and a great bread to pair with your St. Patrick’s Day meal.
  • Corned Beef and Cabbage
A great choice for your main course! This dish takes a while to cook, but the flavour is worth the wait.
  • Irish Butter Pudding
The perfect way to finish your Irish meal, and it’s easy to make!

St. Patrick’s Day Games
Have fun at home with some games that everyone can play! These are not only entertaining to play but fun to create. Hopefully the luck of the Irish is on your side!

  • Pot O’ Gold Coin Toss
This one is simple and fun. Just get a black pot (an old witches’ cauldron from Halloween or any old pot can work) and some gold coins and see who can toss the most in the pot.
  • Scavenger Hunt
Hide some St. Patrick themed items around the house and see if your kids can find them using helpful clues. This could be gold coins, rainbows, shamrocks or whatever items you can come up with.
  • Lucky Bingo
This one is just like the Bingo you know but with a leprechaun twist! Create bingo cards with LUCKY written over the top where you would normally have BINGO. In the rest of the boxes put images of items associated with St. Patrick’s Day.

Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day is all about having fun and enjoying some Irish culture. What better way to do that than as a family? We hope these tips on how to celebrate at home help you and your family have your best St. Patrick’s Day yet.
