Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Canada has issued a Global Travel Advisory to avoid all non-essential travel outside of Canada until further notice. As a result, GMS is temporarily suspending sales of our TravelStar Insurance product, effective immediately.

Due to the Global Travel Advisory, our TravelStar product is no longer able to provide coverage for any emergency medical or trip cancellation claims outside of Canada. Individual Health and Group customers who had not departed for their destination as of March 13th will not have travel emergency medical coverage as long as the Global Travel Advisory is in place.

Who’s still eligible to make a claim?

1. TravelStar Emergency Medical customers who departed for their destination before March 13th, 2020.

2. Trip Cancellation customers who purchased their plan before March 13th, 2020, subject to the following limitations on Trip Cancellation (TC) coverage purchased between March 9th and 13th:

  • Cruise ship travel: Any Trip Cancellation plan purchased will not cover any COVID-19 related cancellation claims.
  • Regional Travel Advisories for COVID-19: Any Trip Cancellation plan purchased will not cover COVID-19 related cancellation claims for travel to any country that already had a regional travel advisory in place for COVID-19. During this time period, South Korea was the only country with a regional-only travel advisory.

Otherwise, there are no changes to Trip Cancellation coverage purchased before March 13th:
