Vice President of Information Technology set to retire

Rick Fesciuc will retire as GMS’s Vice President of Information Technology effective April 30, 2018.

When he joined GMS in 2012, Rick brought extensive public and private sector experience to his leadership of the IT function.

“Rick’s first priority was building a true partnership between IT and the business," says President and CEO John Salmond. “We had a talented group of IT professionals, and we knew it was critical to invest in our infrastructure, but like many organizations at the time, IT and the business needed new solutions to work together.”

“He had a vision of IT working closely with the business to learn and understand their needs, and then using technology to enable business solutions. Rick’s approach really helped GMS evolve from a more traditional, hierarchical company with silos of expertise, to a much more collaborative culture,” said Salmond. “Today we routinely tackle projects with cross-functional teams, and encourage everyone’s contributions. We come up with much better outcomes because of our new approaches.”

Rick’s career will have spanned more than 38 years, culminating with GMS, where he has also provided excellent leadership and mentorship as part of the Executive Team, modelling the qualities he most values: mutual trust and respect. Once he retires, he would like to contribute his passion for leadership at the corporate board level. In addition to spending more time with family, he also plans to indulge his passion for restoring hot rods. Want to know more? Read Rick’s message to GMS staff.
